Day 32 Treveague to Carlyon Bay

Due to the forecasted heatwave, I decided to make an early start today. I was fast asleep by 9pm last night and got up at 5 am this morning. By the time I’d packed up, it was 6:10 before I left the site.

I quickly walked down into Goran Haven where I was lucky to see the early morning sun in the harbour.

There was a steep climb out of the village up onto the cliff tops, but it gave you a nice view back towards the village.
It didn’t take long to reach Chapel Point, where there were some exclusive looking properties!
From there, I quickly reached Portmellon, which was very pretty and peaceful at 7:30 in the morning!
It was then onto Mevagissey ( which I always want to call  Megavissey) which looked absolutely stunning without the tourist crowds. There was plenty of activity going on in the harbour as the fishermen prepared their boats.

No sooner had I left Mega, than a stiff climb over to Pentewan provided another stunning village.

By this time, it was really starting to heat up. I was glad of the odd bit of shade as the path took me into the odd bit of woodland. However, there were one or two stiff climbs  to negotiate, which was not what you wanted to see in this heat!

However, as per usual with the coast path, what it takes away from you in energy, it gives you sights like this!
When I reached Lower Porthpean beach, I was starting to flag and had a juice and lemon sorbet at a beach cafe, to revive myself. Unfortunately, after that beach, there was a recent path diversion (due to a rockfall) which wasn’t signposted very well. I made a mistake and missed a turn so ended up walking three times further into Charlestown than I needed to. To drown my sorrows I stopped for a drink at the Rashleigh Arms!

After that bit of essential refreshment, I continued down into Charlestown docks, where there were a number of tall ships.

I then walked around Ladrion Point to Carlyon Bay, where I diverted inland to the wonderful Carlyon Bay Camping Park. It has every conceivable facility, including a refreshing swimming pool. Needless to say, I took a plunge!

Today’s walking was quite strenuous due to the number of hills, but delightful scenery more than made up for the arduous activity in the heat!

I ended up walking just under 16 miles and climbed over 3,000ft.
