Day 27 Porthleven to Lizard

What another brilliant day on the path that just keeps on giving.

I had a good sleep in my tent at Out of the Blue campsite, but was up at 6. After showering and drying out the tent (from the heavy dew) I left the site at 7:45.

I walked through Porthleven harbour and then a short stint on a road, before there was a bit of headland walking. In no time at all, I reached Loe Bar, which was quite difficult traversing.

Still, it’s the first bar I’ve visited this trip, which I didn’t stop for a pint at!

After that, there was more headland walking towards Poldhu Cove.

There was a cafe at Poldhu, so I stopped for a coffee and sausage & egg bap, because I was quite hungry by then (10:00).

After that little rest, there was a climb up to  Poldhu Point, where the Marconi company sent the first radio communication across the Atlantic in 1901, by transmitting the letter ‘S’ repeatedly via morse code. It was received in Newfoundland.

It’s amazing how technology has moved on in 121 years, in that now I can make a video on my phone using satellites to track my movements!

Next stop was Mullion Cove. This is a view towards Mullion Island.

The path then headed into The Lizard National Nature Reserve, with some lovely headland walking and a few steep valleys to traverse.

There was quite a steep drop down into Kynance Cove.
I stopped at the cafe and bought a cold bottle of lager, which was very refreshing in the heat. It was a popular place, with people swimming in the sea.

There were a couple more stiff climbs before I reached Lizard Point ( Britain’s most southerly point).

This evening I am having a bit of luxury and staying in The Top House Inn. I’ve even had a nice long soak in the bath!
Today, I’ve walked just over 16 miles. Tomorrow, I will walk to Coverack, then see how I feel as to whether I go further!
