Day 47 Charmouth to Burton Bradstock

I stayed at a charming campsite called Cummins Farm. Everyone was well spaced and respectfully quiet. The showers were very new and 50p for 5 minutes, which was more than enough.

Just after I got up this morning we had a few showers of rain, meaning that I had to put the tent away wet ( it doesn’t do it any good, but more importantly it weighs more wet!)

I walked down into the village of Charmouth and got a few bits and pieces in the Nisa shop.

I also stopped at the cafe for a bacon bap and coffee. By the time I came out I could hear somebody talking on a P.A. system. I continued towards where the path leaves the town, where I was asked to wait for a few minutes, because there was a running event taking place. I found out that they were going up Golden Cap and back to Charmouth.

I duly waited for about 70-80 runners to go by, then began following them up Stonebarrow Lane, which was a long reasonably steep hill. It was immensely satisfying when I caught and overtook 5 of the backmarkers, but probably quite demoralising for them!

After a while I followed the coast path route and the runners went a different route.  However, it didn’t take long before the elite runners had been up Golden Cap and were coming back down towards me!

I continued on up Golden Cap, which is the South Coast’s highest point. By this time there was quite a strong breeze, but it was working in my favour and pushing me up the hill!

The views were at the top ok, but not as good as they would have been on a clear day!

I then  walked down to Seatown, where I was first in the queue for the Anchor Pub to open up!  I had a cheese & ham baguette, washed down with a pint of IPA!

After lunch, I climbed the hill towards Eype and had some lovely views!

Eventually I dropped down to West Bay, which brought back some memories of when Mum & Dad lived in Bridport.
I met up with Steve & Anna  and their friends Jo & Joe in a pub in West Bay.

We then walked over the the hill to Burton Bradstock

Where we are staying in the campsite there. Today has been relatively short in distance but slightly governed by campsite availability!
