Day 16 Polzeath to Trevone
I went out like a light last night and slept soundly until 6am. I got up and was away from the campsite by 7:45.
I knew I needed to finish off the bit of the path I missed yesterday, so walked around the Pentire Peninsula.
That took a couple of hours and I was ready for the nice cooked breakfast I had in TJ’s cafe in Polzeath, by the time I got back to the village.
After that, I headed towards Trebetherick Point, which overlooks the famous ‘Doom Bar’. If you look at the photo below, you may just be able to make it out๐
I continued on towards Rock, where I caught the ferry across to Padstow. When I got to Padstow, it was absolutely heaving. Everywhere was choc-a-bloc with tourists. It was honestly like Oxford Street on a Saturday afternoon! I forced my way through the crowds to the London Inn, which had been recommended by a friend who knows a thing or two about pubs! After a nice refreshing pint of lager, I quickly made my way back to the coast path, to escape the hoardes. It took a while, by eventually I had the path mostly to myself. The views back across Padstow Bay were quite stunning. Is this really England?
I continued to walk around Stepper Point and the towards the lovely secluded beach of Butter Hole ( you’d need a boat to reach it!)It was a really enjoyable walk today, because it was mostly headland walking, with gentle climbs rather the than brutal ones I’ve endured recently!
Eventually, I reached Trevone ( or Trev Won as I like to call it๐) which was another popular beach. I have checked into a B&B in the village ( it’s the pub/hotel). It’s a bit like going back to the 1970’s in decor, but perfectly friendly and food was as good as any I have had elsewhere.
I managed over 14 miles today and would have continued if I hadn’t already arranged accommodation. My feet felt good and no real aches or pains ( there’s always some minor one’s) worry about.
I bumped into more walkers who donated to my cause.
Can I just remind any of you reading this that I am trying to raise some funds for MIND ( mental health charity) because I think their services are likely to be more and more required due to all the financial, conflict and post pandemic worries people are facing. Please consider donating if you can afford it. Many thanks to those of you who have donated. Unfortunately, I forgot to load my password to my just giving page onto my phone, so I can’t respond to any of you on there until I finish!
