Lands End to Treen
After yesterday’s slog, today has been a bit of a lazy day.
I left the campsite at 7:45 and headed back to Lands End. The place was deserted, so I didn’t hang around. I re-joined the path and soon realised I was being watched!
After all the exertions of yesterday, the path was quite pleasant. Yes there was still a bit more boulder scrambling, but it was few and far between. The coastal scenery was spectacular!
There were a few steep climbs, but to be honest, my fitness must be improving, because I hardly got out of breath.
Soon I reached the coastguard lookout post at Gwennap Head, where the wind was blowing quite strong! After that I dropped down to Porthgwarra, where like an oasis, a cafe shack appeared.
After that I walked over to the Minack Theatre, but I couldn’t get anywhere near the place. It was only open to pre-booked parties. Instead I clambered down the sheer cliff to Porthcurno ( not for the faint hearted!) I was a little disappointed with Porthcurno village if I’m honest. There is a Telegraph museum ( where the original under sea telegram cable came ashore) but it was shut today.
I had a coffee and baguette at the cafe and a good chat with a couple from Buckinghamshire. I was also given more money towards my cause by a lady called Jody.
After Porthcurno I had to make a decision. Continue walking and face no facilities for many miles, or cut the walk short and check in at Treen campsite.
I chose the latter, which turned out to be a good decision. Firstly, because a sea mist and drizzle soon came in after I had pitched my tent. Secondly, because after an hour of being pitched, who should turn up on the pitch next to mine, Steve & Anna ( who are also walking the whole path). Needless to say, we headed straight to the Logan Rock Inn!
It’s been a short day in terms of mileage ( only 7.5 ) but I think I’ve earned it after yesterday’s marathon!
