Day 34 Lansallos to Looe

After wrote yesterday’s blog, thunderstorm’s set in for most of the evening and the temperature dropped, so much that I used all my warm clothing and woolly hat for the first time, to warm myself up!

Even though the campsite had a barn for guests to use to shelter in, I couldn’t be bothered to get soaking wet walking over to it. So it was a boring evening stuck in the tent, with the raindrops hammering on the canvas!

I slept quite well despite all that and left the site at 8:00. Today being Sunday, I thought I’d take it easy! Also because the weather forecast looked fairly poor, I decided to have a short day and just walk as far as Looe.

Unfortunately, the first stage turned out to be far from easy! The path was completely overgrown for a patch of about 2 miles, where it was chest high with sodden vegetation.

I got absolutely soaked. I decided not to don wet weather gear, because what it stops in external moisture, it more than makes up for in internal (sweat)!

That may or may not have been a mistake. Getting my legs and shorts soaking wasn’t so much of an issue (they quickly dried out). However, my boots got absolutely saturated. Whether the water soaked through the leather or (more likely) it came in through the neck, my socks and feet were wringing wet.

Eventually, I reached a part where the grass cutting fairies had been!

The last mile or so, was quite a pleasant walk, were it not for my feet squelching in my boots! I stopped to wring out my socks, but it didn’t help much.

I arrived in Polperro before the crowds and had a quick look around the harbour area,

before stopping for a coffee at the heritage centre cafe. Unfortunately, most other things were still closed (9:45).

I could see a weather front out to sea that was allegedly heading our way ( depending on which forecast you believed) so decided to plough on to Looe.

I must say, despite the soggy feet, the walk from Polperro to Looe was most pleasant. The path was nice and maintained and not too many steep hills to negotiate.

Due to the easy terrain, I arrived in Looe quicker than expected.

I managed to purchase some talc ( for my soggy feet) and have grabbed the opportunity for a meal ( in case it’s unavailable on a Sunday evening as has happened before on this trip)!

I have booked a room in a B&B overlooking the bridge and harbour.

I’m going to have a quiet afternoon with my feet up!

I’ve walked just 9 miles today, totalling up to just under 390 so far, with another 240 to go!
