Day 33 Carlyon Bay to Lansallos

You know what I said yesterday about the Carlyon Bay campsite being wonderful, well in essence it is. It’s set in acres of grounds, with lots of hedges to separate pitches and excellent toilet facilities. Unfortunately, what I didn’t realise or take into account, was that the site is quite close to a main road, which sounded like it was used as the local street racing circuit. If that wasn’t bad enough, at about 8:30 pm incredibly loud music could be heard. It turned out that a ‘music’ concert was being held at The Eden Project ( some 2 miles away) and the sound was carrying that far. Whoever paid for a ticket to see Nine Inch Nails ( I’ve never heard of them) could have saved some money and just come to our campsite!

Luckily it didn’t go on too late( finished by 10:30 pm). However, no sooner had that racket died down, than some fellow campers returned to site and sat out chatting amongst themselves! That went on until the early hours and I was spitting feathers, but didn’t want to get into an altercation, so didn’t say anything!

Needless to say, I didn’t sleep very well! I got up at 7am and made sure to make a bit of noise!

The first part of the walk today was firstly around a golf course, then around Par Minerals works ( a vast site) meaning there wasn’t much to see.

Eventually we traversed Par Sands and an area called Little Hell ( which was quite apt)!

We had a bit of light rain just after this was taken, just enough to wet everything but not enough to warrant getting togged up in wet weather gear!

I then dropped down into Polkerris , which had a quaint harbour,

before heading on to Gribbin Head, where there is a large tower ( a shipping day marker).
There was then quite a nice walk around the headlands towards Fowey.

I didn’t bother spending any time ( or lots of money judging by all the designer shopping bags) in Fowey, but caught the ferry across to Polruan.

I stopped at a pub in Polruan and had some lunch, before re-joining the path.
The sun began to come out, so when I spied this beach, I decided it was worth the steep climb down to have my first swim in the sea!
I didn’t stay there long, because I could see the next weather front coming in. It was then a race to get to the campsite at Lansallos. It was blowing a gale and just starting to rain when I arrived, but I just managed to get the tent up as the heavy rain started. It chucked it down for about 45 minutes, but has stopped for now!

I walked 14.5 miles today.
