Day 30 Pennance to Portscatho

I had a peaceful night last night, but the temperature must have dropped quite low, because I woke up chilly a few times and the fly sheet of the tent was absolutely soaking when I got up ( inside and out).

After trying my best to dry it, I set off from the campsite at 8:30. I cheated slightly, by rather than walking back to Maenporth, I walked up the steep Pennance Hill and back down to Swanpool, where there was a nice beach.

There was then a bit of a climb up to Pendennis Point, which overlooks the entrance to  Carrick Roads (estuary).

After that, there was a walk down past the docks to Falmouth. I stopped off for a coffee and then bought a few provisions.

I then had two ferry’s to catch. The first was from Falmouth to St Mawes, which was a fabulous crossing, where I had a chat with some lovely people.

Unfortunately, when I got to St Mawes, an unusually low tide, meant that I had a two and a half hour wait, until I could get the connecting ferry to Place ( the only alternative would be to walk around the Percuil River estuary, which would take the same amount of time and add too many miles to my tired feet)!

I therefore had absolutely no alternative but to visit the Rising Sun pub, for a refreshing pint (or two)! I was also able to dry my tent out in the sunshine.

Eventually, the ferry service resumed and I got across to Place.

After that, it was a nice walk up to St Anthony Head. Apparently it was named after the bloke in the coffee commercials ( his acting was good, but I don’t think it deserved a Sainthood!)

There was then a lovely walk across the headlands towards Porthmellion Head.
By now, even though the mileage wasn’t that high, I was starting to get tired. I had to dig out the jelly babies to give me that extra boost to finish off the stretch.

I am staying in a campsite in Portscatho. I’ve just had a beer with Steve & Anna ( who are staying further on) and now I’m chatting to a lovely couple from Yorkshire.

I’ve probably only walked about 11.5 miles today, but it was more than enough!
