Day 29 Coverack to Maenporth
Last night I stayed at Penmarth Farm campsite just outside Coverack. It was lovely and peaceful and my first time using compostable toilets ( thunder boxes)!
I set off at 8:20 and walked back down into Coverack village. The harbour was looking quaint at that time of the morning.
There was then a nice walk along the headlands to Low Point, before we entered a rather eerie disused quarry complex. There were lots of strange buildings! The path then dropped down into Godrevy Cove, which again was lovely and peaceful. I had the same issue this morning, where my body just felt lethargic and weak. There was nothing wrong with me, other than my brain might have been awake but my muscles were still half-asleep!After a couple of hours I reached Porthallow, the official half way point of the whole path.
There was a cafe nearby, so I had a coffee and piece of coffee & walnut cake to celebrate having walked 315 miles! The short rest and refreshments did the trick, because when I resumed, I was back firing on all cylinders!
It didn’t take long before I reached Gillan, where if the tide is out, you paddle across the river ( otherwise it’s a 3 mile detour).
There was then a refreshing walk through the woods to Helford ( it was nice to get out of the midday sun). By the time I arrived at Helford, the ferry service was still not quite operational due to the low tide, so I took the opportunity to have some lunch at The Shipwrights Arms. After lunch, I got the ferry across to Helford Passage. Who should I bump into at the collection point? Steve & Anna!
I left them at Helford Passage ( to get their lunch) and continued on along the northern banks of the Helford Estuary. The views were absolutely stunning at times.I continued on to Maenporth, which had a busy beach.
Very disappointingly, it’s pub is closed on a Tuesday, so I continued on parched, to my campsite at Pennance Mill!
