Day 6 or Semi-Rest Day

As I was on a sort of rest day, I fancied a lie in. The only problem is, when you are in a tent, the sun and birds tend to regulate when you wake up! I was awake at 6 and struggled to lie in bed until 7, before I just had to get up!

I made some tea and tried to go back to bed, but to no avail! I got up and washed some clothes, before walking to the local convenience store to get some breakfast & lunch.

I continued to do personal admin until 11:30 before heading out back into Braunton Burrows to complete yesterday’s walk!

It was quite a warm day with sunny spells. There wasn’t much to see as such, because the path initially had hedges on both sides. There is obviously a lot of fertile land around here, because the farmers were growing veg and potatoes!

I walked past the military training area, but being a Sunday, there wasn’t any activity. Eventually I reached the beach overlooking Appledore, across the Taw Estuary.
It is only half a mile across the estuary to Appledore. However, in order for me to reach it, I have to walk 20 miles, down one side of the Taw estuary to Barnstaple, back up the other side to Instow, then down the Torridge Estuary to Bideford, before walking back up to Appledore! My walk took me around Crow Point where the tide had gone out!

I have spent the afternoon in the pub, firstly watching the football, where for a few minutes I got excited that the quadruple might still be on for Liverpool!

Secondly, I got chatting to Annie and Steve who are also attempting to walk the whole path. We exchanged stories and generally had a good chat. No doubt our paths will cross over the coming weeks. They are braver than me, just sleeping under a bivvy shelter ( well not tonight, they are staying in the pub I was drinking in!)

Tomorrow the plan is to walk the Taw estuary to a campsite at Yelland.
