Day 13 Bude to Pennycrocker ( Near Boscastle)
I’d like to say my day off from the path did me the world of good. Unfortunately, late yesterday afternoon I started to feel a bit off colour, feeling a bit nauseous. I went to a pub to watch the football, but only had the one pint and didn’t even finish that. I couldn’t wait for the game to end, so I could go to bed! Anyone who knows me, will appreciate that just isn’t me!
Consequently, I had a terrible night’s sleep. Kept waking because of the nausea, but wasn’t actually ill.
I left Bude this morning feeling like I had a hangover, so decided to try and sweat out whatever is wrong with me.
I had to walk through Bude Harbour to get to the path.
It was a nice gentle climb over to Widemouth Bay.After Widemouth there were some more severe climbs but you got to see some swanky properties!
After this there were a couple of brutal climbs at Dizzard and St Genny’s. I was really struggling but eventually found some energy ( well I found my jelly babies) to get over these climbs. The pictures don’t really do the severity of the climb justice. After 6 1/2 hours, I finally reached Crackington Haven. Where I quickly ordered a pint of coke and pint of lager to re-hydrate! I’ve just got to figure out where to stay tonight. I’m probably going to wild camp somewhere if I can find a suitable spot!
In the end, although I found a couple of spots that would have made nice places to wild camp, I didn’t have sufficient water with me to cook and drink etc. Everywhere that look promising on the map, turned out to be as dry as a desert.
I have therefore found a campsite at a place called Pennycrocker ( just north east of Boscastle). At least I can have a shower after the sweating I did today😷
However, in order to get here, I detoured off the path somewhat, because I was too tired to give a sh*t about it!
