Training Woes!
Since I wrote my first post, I have had a bit of a disaster in my preparations for the walk. Firstly, I have injured my left hip. I do occasional labouring for a friend, who has a flat-bed Ford Transit. I had to climb onto the back of the truck to move some turf we were about to lay. Foolishly, I decided it would be quicker to jump down, rather than lower myself gently to the ground (something I have done many times before). Unfortunately, on this occasion, I'd left a wheel barrow by the tailgate, so not only did I have to jump down, but I also had to push off to 'clear' the barrow. I managed this fine, but landed a bit heavier than I expected. It didn't hurt, but was quite a jolt. I carried on shifting the turf without problem. However, later that evening, I noticed that my left leg was aching more than usual. I still didn't think anything of it, but the following morning, my left hip had seized up completely and was extremely painful to squat or lift the leg. It turned out that I had torn a tendon in my hip. That was three weeks ago and I am still suffering now. I can walk relatively freely, but climbing stairs / hills is an issue! Meanwhile, my right achilles tendon has developed a bit of tendinitis, making walking quite painful!
So, rather than upping my training effort, I have virtually had to completely stop, because any walking was making my achilles worse. I am doing lots of physio exercises to try and repair the damage, but having to be patient! At the moment, it is very much in the balance as to whether I will be able to commence the walk in early May.
As if that wasn't enough, I have now tested positive for Covid 19. At the moment, all I have is a head cold. Lets just hope it doesn't get any worse!
